QUESTIONS TO PONDER ON

Reference text: 1 Samuel 16:1-13, John 9:1-41

1. What areas in my own life am I blind to?

It’s a simple truth that a man will always claim to be right in his own eyes. Left to ourselves, we are the very best- perfectly made and without flaws. In every area of our lives where we think we have worked hard, we are tempted to believe that makes us authorities who have no bad points.

With such a mindset, we become bent on commenting on, and removing the specs in other peoples eyes, oblivious of the log in our own eyes. Most of us are blind to our own weak spots, but are often too proud to allow others point them out. Even when alerted, we provide justification for them in this way ‘that is just how I am’. In the face of correction, that is the language of an unteachable heart.

2. Do I see others the way God sees them?

Sadly, this is an area we ought to all strive to improve on because scarcely do we see others through the lense of God. Instead, we see them through the lenses of our past experiences, social standards, physical status etc. While these matter, God often sees beyond such. That is why He will skip Eliab and choose David, and why he will insist Ananias anointed Paul despite his personal reservations.

We will be surprised that God does not see us the way some of us perceive ourselves. However, it will take going on a journey with Him to see ourselves through the mirror of his word. Only then can we see ourselves as He sees us.
