ASK – Ask, Seek & Knock

Matthew 7:7-12 is a very popular scripture quoted in many circles. It is the text we refer to as “ASK”, an abbreviation for Ask, Seek and Knock.

While reading this text again today, my mind was drawn to how much of a blank slate the text is. It is without borders or limits, hence some questions arose even as I read through:

1. Ask: For what and from who? How many times and when?
2. Seek: For what, when and from where?
3. Knock: On which door? At what time? What should be used to knock? For how long?

Those are questions we often don’t ponder on, but their relevance is indispensable.

If you don’t know what to ask for, how will you know when it has arrived? If you don’t ask the right people how will you obtain? If you don’t seek in the right places, what are your chances of finding? On which door do you knock? How long should you even wait after you have knocked? What tools did you employ to knock?

Pardon me if all you read today are questions, but your asking, seeking and knocking should be aimed at specific outcomes which you may define at the start. But God doesn’t always go according to our script. So again, if the responses to your requests are not as you asked or sought, what would you do? Do you abandon your pursuit?

Just ponder on these today.
