WHO KNOWS?

Jonah 3:8-9 but let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and let them call out mightily to God. Let everyone turn from his evil way and from the violence that is in his hands. Who knows? God may turn and relent and turn from his fierce anger, so that we may not perish.”

The king of Nineveh did not know what Moses and Jonah knew about God, that He was: “The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness (Exodus 34:6). Yet, he boldly issued a decree telling his citizens : “I know this might be a gamble that does not pay off, but let’s take a chance anyway, WHO KNOWS? Just maybe, it will secure for us a token of mercy.”

To the king and his nobles, that was not the time to claim royalty and nobility, but issue a cry for mercy. This was something their crowns and statuses would not attain it, but perpahs, their humility might. One should know when to lay aside their crowns. We know you are gifted, talented and wealthy, but those are not the weightier matters in every space.

Another phrase that stood out is ‘who knows”. In the valley of dry bones captured in Ezekiel 37, when the prophet was asked “can these bones live again?”, his response was “O Lord God, “only you know.” So in your case, that small idea, simple business, constant learning, dedicated service, and good rapport you have built with others, Who knows?
Who can tell what it’s end goal will be? But God knows, so keep at it, mercy will answer.
