Mark 8:12 But He sighed deeply in His spirit, and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Assuredly, I say to you, no sign shall be given to this generation.”
I pictured Jesus asking me this question about my generation “Why does this generation seek for a sign?”, and this was my answer:
“It’s because we have to see it to believe it. Through no fault of ours, we have seen so much betrayal and disappointment at the hands of those we trusted. Sometimes, in seeking to do good, we have been taken for a ride where loss has prevailed. So pardon us if we seek for signs, unless it written, dated and signed, you may find it hard to get our attention.
We seek for signs because we want to confirm what you have said and who you are. But don’t worry-it’s not only you-we ask the same of everyone else. We want to see tangible evidences and no longer simply take giant leaps of faith. Sorry, but those risks associated with stepping forward into the unknown is not something we’re excited about anymore’
To this answer, His response was “‘I am your portion and your inheritance’. I know life has shaped you to trust only in what you can confirm with your senses, but you ought to step beyond these signs because I am more than that.”
