TAKE OPPORTUNITIES TO SHINE

Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

We travel back to the book of the beginning where we see “LET THERE BE” as a recurring theme. That is a statement of permission – allowing things to happen. Why is this relevant? It is because you have the potential to light a lamp, but prevent it’s light from reaching anything or anyone. You can literally hide your light from men by an act of your very own will.

So in today’s Gospel, Jesus was saying to his audience ‘give your light permission to shine’. The intent behind this is to reveal to all the source without which there can be no light. The final words of one of the hymms struck me today:
“This day is yours to change the world – to make God known and loved”

Each day therefore present us with a golden opportunity to shine as an exhibition for God. And those are opportunities we should not take lightly.
