WE CAN ASK QUESTIONS

Reference text Mark 6:1-6

Whenever I have read this text, my mind has gone to the statement which beautifully summarizes it for many of us “a prophet is without honour in his own hometown”. Today however, as I read it again, the thing coming to mind is “of course they had reason to ask questions”. The intention may not have been right, but the folks in Jesus’ hometown had three questions:

  • Where did this man get these things?” they asked?
  • What’s this wisdom that has been given him?
  • What are these remarkable miracles he is performing?

It is true that we have been told that ‘no one comes out of nowhere’, but there should be a trail of evidence to show from what source your stock arises. Others should be able to ask you questions, not out of spite or offence, but to verify that what you are presenting to the body of Christ is not from a contradicting source.

Too often, many are afraid to ask questions and that is how strange practices, outside the scope mandated in the word has crept its way in. Everybody came from somewhere, we agree. But the ‘where’ is what we are interested in. If you are unwilling to share your source, which should be the Almighty God and genuine men whom He has anointed, we have reason to question what you bring.
