YOUR PERSONAL JOURNEY AWAITS

We read today about the return of the Ark of God to the City of David amidst singing, rejoicing and sacrifices. All joy and merry with King David subsequently giving out what we may call gifts to the entire multitude. It is however the verse in Second Samuel 6:19, describing this action which captures my attention:

"Then he distributed to every man and woman among the multitude of Israel a loaf of bread, a date cake, and a raisin cake. And all the people departed, each to his own home."

The giving out begun with a crowd, but at the end of the day here is the crux of the matter “each departed to his own home”.

Thus, while there is a place for community, and why God has so designed it that no man can be truly self sufficient, lacking nothing and no one, there is a place for ‘each one with his God’. Intimacy with God is this not always communal, there is a place where ‘it’s a one on one affair’. Salvation is the first of such, then an onward journey into deeper personalized knowledge and dealings.

You can ride the wave of the crowd’s energy and appear to be buzzing off the corporate praise and flow of the Spirit. But, the real engagement happens when ‘each departs to their own home’ – where you now stand as an individual before the throne. In that moment, what would you do? Would you go seeking for the external buzz from the crowd or draw from something within?

Remember, “they departed each to their own home” –

The crowd has carried you long enough, now is the time to begin your very own personal journey with God
