IN HIS SEVICE BUT IGNORANT OF HIM

Reference text: 1 Samuel 3:1-17

I found reading this text quite interesting. In particular, two verses caught my attention. In verse 1 we read “And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision.” However, we continue reading and in verse 7, we see another statement that appears to be a contrast “Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto him.”

So we see an individual ministering to the Lord, but they did not know the Lord. Does that situation sound familiar? Well, it should because it is the state of many. From a distance, it appears they have right standing with God and are in his service. However, scratch beneath the surface and you find men who have no real knowledge of who God is.

This is not knowing at a head level only, but beyond the realm of logic to that of am experiential dimension. It is hard to think that you can be in close proximity to God, even in his service and yet have no knowledge of him. These are those to whom God is eager to introduce himself to.
