RECEIVE THE WORD AS IT REALLY IS

1 Samuel 1:14, 17 So Eli said to her, “How long will you be drunk? Put your wine away from you!... Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.

In today’s story, Hannah was called a drunk  by Eli, the priest of Shiloh. For a person of his rank, Eli made a presumption based on what he saw and drew premature conclusions. Hannah’s reaction is profound because even though she was justified to raise her voice in her own defence, she calmly explained her state. By so doing, she got the priest over the house to agree with her on her request, and it came to pass. She looked past the biases of the vessel, and accepted the words spoken as the word of God.

1 Thessalonians 2:13 says ‘For this reason we also constantly thank God that when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of mere men, but as what it really is, the word of God, which also is at work in you who believe. There is a way to receive the word of God where it has no efficacy and no capacity to either transform or empower.

Whenever anyone receives the word of God, they may often have to look past the medium or vessel through which it comes because like it or not, the word is ministered through these vessels. These vessels are men like us, with inherent weakness ses, limitations and biases, yet have been called by God with this assignment limitations of men, but don’t let that stop you from receiving the word of God as it really is. You will be the one missing out.
