THE MINISTRY OF REMEMBRANCE

Luke 4:17 The scroll of Isaiah the prophet was handed to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where this was written:

The ministry of the Holy Spirit in the life of the believer is manifold. One executive summary of a dimension of his ministry is presented in John 14:26 ‘But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

So while the ministry of teaching can begin from the ground up, and commence the very moment the student submits to the tutor, the ministry of remembrance is different. It rests on the foundation of existing or attained knowledge. Thus, when Jesus enters the temple and was handed the scroll of the prophet Isaiah, the choice of wording is important “he opened it and FOUND the place where it was written”.

Isaiah has sixty-six chapters so that was no luck, it was familiarity -recall what he was doing in the temple with the teachers when he was twelve years? And his attendance to the synagogue each Sabbath as a custom? Sometimes, believers turn the Holy spirit into a magician. We won’t read for an impending exam but expect miraculous grades, we won’t obtain knowledge about an area of specialty yet expect to know things by heart.

We won’t acquire knowledge about our relationship with God and men, yet somehow, expect information to arise automatically when we need it. Beloved, bear in mind that there is a place for the teaching ministry of the Spirit, however equally, there is a place for remembrance. The ministry of remembrance does not operate in the absence of prior knowing, so your part is absolutely necessary.
