Assessment of situations is not a bad thing. In fact, it is a main consideration prior to executing any meaningful plan. In the assessment process, one identifies strengths as well as limitations and weaknesses. Often times, we are very good at amplifying those identified weaknesses and limitations, undermining the place of the unique strengths identified in the assessment process.
In the parable we read today, the disciples were quick to create their assessment of the situation “this place is desolate and the hour is late”. So two strong limitations of location and timing are presented, and on paper, they are not negligible. Yet, it seems in their conversation with Jesus, He did not acknowledge the same limitations they did and asked them to find food for the crowd.
Let’s rephrase this “He saw past the limitations they presented”. Truly, every weakness and limitations stands as an insurmountable mountain until you present them at the feet of Jesus. Before him, his majesty and ability to do consumes our frailties, transforming them into reasons for joy.
I can’t tell what limitations you have, but dare to present them at the feet of the master and see what becomes of them.
