Before the year wraps up, it’s good to call to mind what has been, in anticipation for what is to come. We have an opportunity to look retrospectively at the key moments that defined the past year to guide strategizing for the coming year. Bearing in mind the foundational principle in John 15:5 “apart from me, you can do nothing”.
Today, scripture casts the spotlight from Simeon to Anna the prophetess and her profile is simply presented as follows : “There was also a prophet, Anna, the daughter of Penuel, of the tribe of Asher. She was very old; she had lived with her husband seven years after her marriage, and then was a widow until she was eighty-four. She never left the temple but worshiped night and day, fasting and praying (Luke 2:36-37).
In summary, if you were looking for her, she would be in the temple because she never left. If you were wondering what she was doing, she was worshipping night and day, fasting and praying. That is the definition of staying at post and committed to the assignment. Ours to ponder on is a rather straightforward two part question:
in the coming year, where can we find you and what will you be doing?
It’s a call to review associations and commitments, and to be intentional about pouring our best into what God has committed to us. We cannot go through this coming year also with fractioned and unfocused tasks, we will not achieve much that way. This year, be found at post doing those things that are part of your assignment.
