Reference tex: 2 Samuel 7:1-16
There are inspirations that arise from the heart of a man and today, we read about one of such moments. King David found himself feeling generous and desiring to do good for God and his kingdom. In this episode with the Prophet Nathan, David approaches him with a proposition ” Here I am, living in a house of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent.”
To this proposition, the prophet Nathan responds thus: “Whatever you have in mind, go ahead and do it, for the Lord is with you (2 Samuel 7:3). At least, this was what it seemed until Nathan was sent by God with a message to David, basically telling him “you are not the one to build a house for me ‘(vs 5)
Reading this story again today, the text coming to mind was
Proverbs 19:21 "Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the LORD that will stand."
The plans in the heart of a man does not have to bad for them to be at odds with the plans of God. Even with the blessings of other men, those things which seem good when conceived in the mind, may be misaligned with the real purposes of God. The signature mark of a life well lived is the degree of alignment maintained with the purpose of God.
