LESSONS FROM LUKE 1:57-66

MINIBITES

1. Elizabeth and Zechariah begun this journey with an end goal in mind, a son to be named John. That was the destination. As we read in Luke 1:59-60 ‘So it was, on the eighth day, that they came to circumcise the child; and they would have called him by the name of his father, Zacharias. But his mother spoke up and said, “No! He is to be called John.”

Lesson: If you begin any journey without a destination, anywhere will seem like a good place to stop. This is true in every sphere of life. To be able to say” I have finished” signifies clear knowledge or understanding of the end point. This end becomes the point of reference that fuels  your advance and onward pursuit. Otherwise, you will stop moving.

2. Elizabeth’s neighbour’s and relatives reveal to us the character of true family: “they rejoice with you”

It is very easy to cry with someone whether over a loss or disappointment or betrayal. However, it can be harder to celebrate another person’s good fortune especially when you have nothing worth celebrating. It’s true we can cry with others, but can we genuinely rejoice with them? That calls for a deeper look into the state of our hearts.
