YOU DON’T NEED ALWAYS NEED AN AUDIENCE

Matthew 1:20 Joseph, to whom she was engaged, was a righteous man and did not want to disgrace her publicly, so he decided to break the engagement quietly.

We live in an age of oversharing, a time where it appears that many think that the higher the number of people who have details about their matter, the better. We have therefore made social media arbitrars over our affairs, and strangers the audience to even our most intimate conversations. Boundaries no longer seem to exist.

In today’s story which is very well known, Joseph had the luxury of dragging Mary out in public, at least it presented him with an opportunity to justify his innocence in the whole pregnancy matter. Yet, it was his secrecy that was celebrated.

I know you might think you build a strong case through sharing with many, but it is isn’t every matter you draw an audience to, it doesn’t matter who. There are some issues where more eyes and ears only muddy the waters. They will either reinforce your existing negative narratives and convictions, or present you with multiple opinions that blur out the boundary lines of your own convictions.

It’s not about keeping secrets, it’s about placing a filter on your own mouth. You don’t need an audience on every matter  so learn to keep quiet.
