Romans 15:5 May the God of endurance and encouragement grant you to live in such harmony with one another, in accord with Christ Jesus,
I have seen and heard many names of God, but somehow reading the text today I realized “I had not seen this one before:” The God of endurance and encouragement”
This is not the kind of endurance fueled by the visions and the capacity of men, it is the kind where God supplies the strength required for us to keep running in life. Isaiah 40:28-29 contextualises this further: Have you not known? have thou you heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, faints not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding. He gives power to the faint; and to them that have no might he increases strength.
Do you honestly think that you have the capacity to do life on your own terms? That you are able to keep going, encouraged and strengthened, without an external inflow of strength and encouragement? There is simply no man who stands any chance of journeying through life unaided for ‘even youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly and fall with exhaustion'(Isaiah 40:30)
You simply cannot journey unassisted.
