A HIGHER WAY OF THINKING

REFERENCE TEXT: Isaiah 11:1-10

In our world today, clear lines are drawn between friends and enemies, no blurred lines. Prey and predator have no reason to share a space because the outcome does not need prophesy to determine. So reading the book of Isaiah today requires a bit of very out of the ordinary imagination to picture the kind of wild pairings the prophet described:
1. The wolf and the lamb
2. The leopard and the goat
3. The calf and the lion
4. The cow and the bear
5. The child and the cobra or adder

These are pairings that in the natural would stand no chance of a good outcome because predator and prey don’t lie down side by side. However, on the mountain of the Lord, they can, albeit in the presence of one possibility: “when the earth is full of the knowledge of the Lord as the waters cover the sea”.

This knowledge of God bears the potential to override inherent predatory instincts, and that is the transformative power of the Word. Who you are uniquely does not change – your origins or your ethnicity, however, knowledge of God superimposes a new culture, a new way of thinking and new possibilities into your sphere. And this should be what drives your pursuit.
