LOOK OUT FOR DISTRACTIONS

Luke 21:34 Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you suddenly like a trap.

Jesus highlighted three distractions an individual could face:

  • Distracted by extreme pleasure and indulgence,
  • Distracted by drunkenness, and
  • Distracted by genuine worries of life

The downside to distractions is they seek to steer your attention from a predefined end goal. It’s main aim is to ensure that you do not arrive at that set destination. Even when you do, distractions do their best to ensure that you arrive outside the scheduled time, carrying weights you should not. On many occasions, you may arrive with bruises and scars that should not have been part of your walk.

Pleasure feeds your flesh, and if unregulated, makes you lascivious without boundaries-a free spirit unhindered by anything-that becomes the foundation for moral and spiritual decay: the first distraction.

The second, drunkenness simply blurs your vision and sense of decision making. So you lose your compass and head off along any direction, often far away from where you should actually be heading.

And finally genuine anxieties of life can pin you down to a state of perpetually being task focused without any opportunities to reflect on direction or purpose. So you end up driving forward, often forgetting completely about why you even started.

Beloved,

the path to life and destiny fulfilment is littered with many colourful but costly distractions. So be careful, lest you become ensnared.
