WISDOM IS A PRINCIPAL THING

In a message I listend to yesterday, a three fold key was given as the foundation for fruitfulness, which is a core mandate of every believer. These were wisdom, faith and power. Reading the Gospel this morning, the first pillar stood out quite a bit.

As usual, Jesus used a parable to drive this home. He said

"Look at the fig tree and all the trees. When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near (Luke 21:29-30).

Like stock traders looking at candles on the trends of a stock market, it is one thing to look at a fig tree, it is another thing to notice its leaves sprout. Yet, it is an even higher thing to associate a specific season with this sprouting. Knowledge, therefore, comes in through the senses – sight, smell, taste, touch, and hearing-however it is wisdom that makes all such knowledge life-applicable. In other words, profiting from knowledge arrives when wisdom goes to work.

Changing seasons do not always come a big banner, but subtle signs always precede them. In the absence of wisdom, sprouting leaves on fig tree only make for a more lush or colourful appearance. It is the contextualisation of this with an impending change in season that arms an individual with the need to make adjustments in preparation for the upcoming season. Without this, many seasons will pass you by without you realizing.
