Reference text: Daniel 6
This chapter in Daniel details the story we know well as ‘Daniel in the lions den’. The satraps or president’s who intended to entrap Daniel wrote up the decree and brought it before King Darius. All he had to was “sign the written decree” and it became law”. That was fairly easy and straight forward. The king may have been blindsided by the real intent behind the decree, but he signed it anyways.
But do you notice what goes on when he realized he needed to make a reversal: “he labored until the setting of the sun to deliver him”, a full day of effort – all to no avail. Daniel was still thrown into the lions den.
Beloved, action and consequence are the focus of this discourse. Some actions are so easy to make, but their effects and impact may linger for a while. Words spoken harmlessly especially at the peak of emotion, decisions made in haste, at the peak of excitement, compromises made quickly at the sight of frustration. In fact, in some cases, you have to labour more in response to the consequence than the action itself.
So don’t always simply jump into taking action, take time to study consequences because those are the weightier matters.
