WHAT HAVE YOU TURNED YOUR HOUSE INTO?

Luke 19:46 It is written,” he said to them, “’My house will be a house of prayer’ but you have made it ‘a den of robbers.’”

A very unusual perspective came to mind while reading this Gospel. It begins with the text from 1 Corinthians 3:16 ‘Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?’

St John in his third epistle wrote ‘Beloved, I wish above all things that thou may prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospers'(3 John 1:2). Therefore, the intention of God for us is for the lives we live to be one of colour and beauty. His desire is that in and through our lives, others may see and give glory to him.

But here comes the contrast ‘you have made it a den of thieves’. In other words, God reminds us ‘regardless of what I desire your life to be, you have the potential to make it something else. I have said ‘a house of beauty’ but by your own hands, you can mar every sense of beauty. I have said you shall advance and go forward, but through an act of your own will, you can choose to pitch camp and stay put.

While it may seem that all lies on God, there is much that rests with us. As much as His word is eternal and unchanging, we can make those same words null and of no effect by our very own hands. You might be the one who thinks what you do doesn’t matter because God has said it. But mind you, you can choose not to partner or cooperate with what has been said, and that act of your will is respected.

However, the consequences associated with that choice is activated the moment the choice is made. The question today therefore is “what have you turned your house into: a house of prayer as is written, or a den of robbers through your will?”
