LICENSE TO GROW

Romans 11:29 For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable

The amplified version adds an even longer  context to today’s text which says ‘
[For He does not withdraw what He has given, nor does He change His mind about those to whom He gives His grace or to whom He sends His call].

The origin of this irrevocability lies in the constancy and unchanging nature of God. That is intended to give the one who believes an anchoring that God is faithful. For even in our unbelief, his faithfulness shines through.

However, one cannot camp on this irrevocability to be in a state of perpetual rebellion. Your gifts and your calling have a purpose, and that is intended to play part in God’s programme. In other words, there are others depending on you attaining mastery in the area of your gifts and becoming fully operational within your calling.

The irrevocability of God’s gifts and calling is therefore not your license for rebellion and misuse. So don’t be deceived into believing that you can fold your arms and do nothing, like the servant who dug the ground and hid his talent. As much as God loves you, He loves everybody else. He will therefore not allow your inaction or refusal to nurture and grow your gifts impact on his programme. Another will be raised to take your Bishoprick.
