REFERENCE TEXT: Psalm 1:1-2
Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly (vs 1).
For starters, counsel can be solicited or offered even when unsolicited. Some ‘ungodly people’ may have sound counsel to offer but their counsel must be discerned in light of its compliance to the word of God. There is ‘a wisdom of this world’, but that often contrasts that required by kingdom people.
Any counsel that fails the filter test of the Word must be discarded, regardless of how sound they may be or from who they come”
“Nor stand in the path of sinners or sits in the company of the scornful” (vs 2)
Even if well intended, your constant exposuse to a anything increases the likelihood of your adoption. It will rub on you and your senses will perceive it. The longer you sit in wrong company, the more likely you are to become comfortable. That is why the shepherd leads his sheep ‘in the paths of righteousness’ (Ps 23:3)as opposed to the “paths of sinners” which is to be avoid.
Bad company corrupts good morals” – where you situate yourself determines the kind and level of exposure you receive.
