In Romans 5:12-21, which is our reference text today, the phrase “one man” occurs nine times. It is used to hammer home the contrast between Adam and Christ, where the outcomes of entire generations were impacted because of the actions of ‘one man’.
Whether the dial swings towards positive outcomes or negative ones, the actions of any ‘one man’ cannot be underestimated. It is not wise to think one man cannot make a difference, especially in the midst of others. In the crowd, it can be very easy to get lost when your mindset is “surely there is someone playing my part!”. Oh what a loss that would be.
You may be one man, but who says your actions do not carry weight? Who says your choices have no implications? Who convinced you that you are simply here to occupy space? Or who ever made you think that ‘you are just one man?
Beloved, no man is without a place in this time. In truth, you are indeed ‘one man’, but your destiny, if fulfilled or not as that ‘one’ has implications. Your actions or inactions thus have an effect on the timeline of events, and that is whether you discern this or not.
