SEASONS OF THE SILENCE OF GOD

There are moments when we enter into the domain of apparently contrasting words when we read scripture. David in Psalm 121 would pray ‘I will lift up my eyes to the hills from where comes my help? My help comes from the Lord the maker of heaven and earth. So it was almost an assurance that help will come. Then in Hebrews 4:16, we are invited to approach the throne of grace boldly to receive grace to help.

So reading the opening words of the prophet Habakkuk today in “O LORD, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save!”, it is as though he had found himself in a season where he had no help. In fact, we can refer to that season as “the season of the silence of God”.

It is those times when it really seems like  we are alone and sometimes, even feel like we are excluded from the economy of God. Nothing may appear to be working – no results to show, no clear instruction to follow and no response from very thorough prayer enterprises. That is often the season many get weary and give up.

This is however the season when one ought to be armed with the words “follow those who through faith and patience inherited the promises”. Bear in mind that the silence of God does not equate to his absence. You keep your eyes on Him and remain patient. He who has promised is faithful.
