AUTHORITY ENFORCED THROUGH ACTION

Any security personnel at post is often armed with a suitable weapon, and that has been consistent through history. The weapon of choice may vary, but it’s role remains the same: to help in enforcing the authority given them to protect a specific location or person. It is therefore possible that in the face of an impeding attack, a personnel with a weapon in hand could choose to stand still and do nothing.

The authority given to the believer is akin to this because as Jesus revealed to the seventy two in Luke 10:19 “Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you”. Thus, the authority afforded them was to enable them to ‘trample, tread or walk over’. Those are all action words.

It is very possible then that in spite of your authority given through Jesus or the systems and institutions of men, you find yourself ‘doing nothing’. You will note that different portions of meat have varying textures and toughness. Meat from the thigh is more likely to be harder to chew than that from the back because the thigh muscles support the body weight.

Therefore, just as muscles are strengthened by reason of frequent use, the extent of authority also requires action to assess efficacy and jurisdiction.
You can be in authority without actions, or act without requisite authority – neither of these suffice on their own. To triumph, you need authority enforced through action.
