Reference text: Ezra 6:7-20
One way to gain marks for questions in a Maths exams is to show the method that led to the answer, a concept known simply as “show working”. Sometimes, it takes seeing how a process unfolds to actually appreciate it’s meaning and today, the verse which came to mind after reading the reference text was “Ecclesiastes 8:4a Where the word of a king is, there is power;”
Beyond the physical resources that were provided, the rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem was founded on the decree of four Kings: God, Cyrus, Darius and Ataxerxes. King Darius in today’s text wrote a decree and concluded with “I Darius have decreed it. Let it be carried out with diligence (Ezra 6:12a)”. This request was carried out without questions.
Kings don’t misuse words because once they speak, it becomes actionable. In Ezekiel 34:14 we read “I the LORD, have spoken it; It shall come to pass, and I will do it”
We have been made kings and priests unto our God, yet we are the only kings who appear to pay no attention to our words. We say whatever comes to mind, whenever and wherever. We use our words anyhow and anywhere, forgetting that it really matters how, where and what our words are used for.
Beloved, kings don’t speak anyhow. Remember that!
