Reference text: 1 Timothy 7:2-12
In reading today’s text, St Paul says in 1 Timothy 6:7 “
For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out."
This was a re-echo of the words in Psalm 49:17. Together, these words provoke a consideration of the very essence of life, and amongst many other things, two core questions come to mind:
1. What do you want from life? And
2. How far will you go to get what you want?
In the pursuit of what life has to offer, normally those things we often quantify as material gain, we are reminded that temptations and snares abound. James 4:2a “You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous of what others have, but you can’t get it, so you fight and wage war to take it away from them.”
There has to be clear cut boundaries that define and guide our pursuits, else we can very easily get drawn into pursuits without limits and boundaries. The end of such is always ruin and destruction.
