KEEP THE FRAME IN MIND

Luke 14:29-30 For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn't able to finish.’

For our discourse today, I will digress from what seems the core of today’s Gospel: “making detailed plans”. In no way am I against foresight or planning ahead of time because that is a crucial requirement for living well. I digress because anyone can plan their life to a tee, with every I dotted and every T crossed. However, it only takes one thing to disrupt all those plans.

I can appreciate this because as a nurse, during a shift, you carefully plan your day, mapping out what to do and when to. Yet, all it takes is one clinical incident or acute deterioration to set you back many hours. To other watching eye, any delays or non execution of your plans appear to be reasonable grounds for ridicule, much like described in today’s Gospel.

People will say” – ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’Interestingly, I chanced upon an update this morning that said: “People will say – which people? who are they? and what are they helping you with?

People say what they want because they don’t know all there is to know. Your plans can be disrupted no matter how robust, so don’t let what people say dissuade you from going back to build on any foundations you have laid. As long as the desire to build and a picture of the tower is preserved in the frame of your mind, you’re safe. You only run into problems when you allow the opinions of people to dissolve any firm imaginations you have. That is when the battle is truly lost and only the foundation will remain.
