NO PURSUIT IS “SAFE”

I have been working through some learning on radiation exposure this weekend, and one thing that appears to sit at the core of this training is  “risk vrs benefit”. In one module however, it was highlighted that even though the low exposures used in diagnostic imaging like hand xrays may be insignificant, you can never really say ‘it is 100% safe’. Meaning that even though the end goal is good, inherently there is a risk. This was summarised beautifully in one statement “No pursuit is safe”

Pursuit of God, pursuit of destiny, pursuit of career or even the pursuit of men – none of these is indeed safe. In our pursuit of God, we are even given a warning before we start, informing us that ‘in this world, we will have trouble’. Do we therefore fold our hands and stop moving? The answer is no, because staying still is also not safe.

Beloved, we do not live in a world with 100% certainties, it is one in which sometimes it takes the boldness to make a move even when the coast is not clear or the view of the horizon is still foggy. It is one in which we press forward, running on with guarantees of an assured end, even though the journey itself may be rife with pitfalls and disappointments.

We are gently reminded that no pursuit is ‘safe’- at least not when it’s a real pursuit. You just have to be willing to keep running and keep trusting, that is the only way you arrive at the expected end.
