Luke 11:11-12 Which of you fathers, if your son asks for[a] a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?
One of the biggest source of contemplation for most Christians arises from the question “why was my prayer not answered?”. However, probe a little deeper and you would realise the second half of their contemplation has not been presented. In full, the query should be “why has God not answered my prayer according to my timeline and the manner in which I prefer it?”
Very often, their concern is valid because unanswered prayer can cause ones faith to waver, and their convictions falter. Because here is the drill “We turn away from God for unanswered prayer and sometimes turn towards him in anger for the same reason. Why then does it appear that God has no answers or drags his feet?
Truth is, ‘He answers every prayer, only not in the way we always desire. It is because “God knows the eternal consequences of our prayers, but we do not know”. Similar to a parent knowing that despite the cries of a child when a knife is taken from them, the consequences are a lot graver than shedding a few tears.
God waits for us to “mature into our requests”. That is something we ought to know about our father, His love sometimes causes Him to say No to us, even when we are desperate and weary.
