DON’T SCATTER RANDOMLY

I recently listened to a message titled “seed time and harvest”. Two central themes I gleaned were:
1. “every harvest, whether good or bad, is pre-programmed.” And the contributors to that programming among many things include our knowledge or ignorance,  choices, and mindset.
2. There are three potential sowers in your field: God, the devil and yourself.

While reading Matthew 13:1-9, the verse of today’s Gospel, I found verses 3-4 interesting:

Then he told them many things in parables, saying: ‘A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up."

Reading this again, ‘it looked like the sower had no specific target for the seed.’ We notice he went out sowing, but used the method of scattering. This approach is random and does not guarantee where the seeds will fall. We aren’t therefore surprised to a hear that some fell on the path, others among rocks, thorns and some in good soil, yielding 30, 60 and 100.

The scatter gun approach might seem like a suitable template to follow with your seeds also, but you cannot and should not replicate this. No sower really sows randomly! Your sowing should be done intentionally, considering the kind of harvest you intend to have. You have to consciously select the seeds, and be likewise be intentional about the field because you may not have an infinite amount of seed.

In addition, you have been given clear knowledge of the outcomes for seeds that fall on the path, between rocks and among thorns. Why then would you choose to sow on those grounds? Do not be deceived: God is not to be mocked. Whatever a man sows, he will reap in return. So choose your seeds, and choose your field, don’t just scatter randomly.
