GUARD YOUR MOUTH

A key element to the success of successful companies is “secrecy” or what we can refer to as “tight control of information”. Only those who need to know will get to know. In fact, ask about the things like the original recipes for Coca-Cola or KFC, and only a handful of people actually have that information.

Likewise, with spiritual things, many things are sealed until a decision is made to unseal them and reveal its content. While reading 2nd King’s today, I was impressed by the life of King Hezekiah, even to the point of receiving an additional 15 years when he had been asked to set his house in order. However, he does something that went against the concept explored in the opening paragraph.

2 King's 20:13 Hezekiah received the envoys from Babylon and showed them all that was in his storehouses—the silver, the gold, the spices and the fine olive oil—his armory and everything found among his treasures. There was nothing in his palace or in all his kingdom that Hezekiah did not show them.

In fact, he led the tour of the kingdom himself and while this might have been his way of showing hospitality, he ended up literally baring it all to strangers – the Kingdom’s security, wealth, gifts, and men. We should not be surprised that in the reign of Nebuchadnezzar, he waged war and took the best of the land away because all this had been shown to them prior (chapter 24)

Be careful then, how much and what you reveal, bearing in mind the words of proverbs 21:23 “He who guards his mouth and his tongue Guards himself from troubles”
