“CROSSING A ROAD”

I have crossed the road on many occasions, but today an image caught my attention: a father and son were waiting for the traffic lights to turn green, but there was an opportunity to cross before the lights changed. The father nudged his lad, took the lead and they both crossed.

For those who grew up in urban areas, one of the skills you learn to master is the ‘art of crossing the road’. This might sound mundane, but for those who have to make it across lanes of traffic without the assistance of officers, zebra crossings or traffic lights, crossing the road is an art that is learnt. It is a test of courage, timing and desire.

The opportunity to succeed at it often fall within a narrow window, the slightest hint of hesitation and you miss a chance and have to wait for the next. We hear ‘life favors the bold’ and it might appear so because the bold are not afraid to take steps forward. They have developed buffers and cushions for when life happens, according to the law of time and chance’.

As a result, they are never down for too long, sad for too long, or grieving for too long. They get up, and soldier on, looking for the next available window of opportunity. Perhaps, you are waiting to also cross a road – career, family, relationship, etc. You have three pillars then to ponder on: ‘timing, courage and desire’. Assess which of those is missing, and obtain Grace from God to fill in that gap through knowledge.
