Reference text: Ezekiel 34:11-16
Among the many traits that characterize a good leader is the ability to delegate. This refers to the knowhow to assign tasks to be completed to others after discerning their capacity to execute them, or with the intent for them to learn through that new task. The latter is appropriate if the outcome has no significant bearing on expected end goals.
However, where the stakes are high, delegation can come at steep cost especially when expectations are not met. In that case, one does not delegate, you rather get your hands dirty and get things done yourself. In today’s text, we read about God speaking in a lot of first person singular with terms such as ‘I will’, ‘I myself will’, I will feed, I will seek, I will strengthen etc.
Coming from the Most High, that is relevant and draws our attention to our responsibilities through life. There are some things we cannot leave for others to do, we have to do them ourselves. Our relationship with God and with others, our growth and advancement, our choices and decisions, these are things we have to own and take responsibility for.
Prayer, word study, career growth, learning, personality development – these cannot be outsourced, because there is a ‘your responsibility dimension’. Look around you, perhaps you have been expecting others to do the things that should actually be headlined by “I will”. The “I” in this case being “you” reading this now.
