SECURE A STRATEGY FIRST

Genesis 15:7-8 He also said to him, “I am the Lord, who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land to take possession of it." But Abram said, “Sovereign Lord, how can I know that I will gain possession of it?”

Does Abraham’s question today sound familiar? You’re not wrong if your mind was cast to Mary’s words when she was visited by the Angel Gabriel with news of Jesus’ birth” How shall this be since I do not know a man”(Luke 1:34). This was the story of two people who had received what seemed like a very wild promise. The first receving news that an entire land had been willed to him, and another that she would conceive while remaining a virgin.

The common denominator in both cases was the question beginning with ‘how’. Abraham today was asking for not demanding an answer to make him believe, because he had already believed and credited as righteous. What he sought with his question was clarity, direction and a strategy. He was asking for knowledge that would consolidate his believing.

Many receive grand promises but do not wait to understand the how it shall come to be. The strategy for execution is not secured hence it makes the promise seem as though it was never given. Interestingly, for the same promise, God’s strategy may differ from one to another such that while for one ‘I will make you great’ equates to strategic relationships, to another it will be because of the value they offer.

Whenever we fail to secure the strategy tied to a promise or prophecy, it will seem as though God lied, but He cannot lie. So before you go running off, check if you have asked and secured ‘how shall this be and how shall I proceed?
