John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
A gatekeeper does literally what the job title suggests, ‘he keeps the gate’, only permitting lawful entry. While in most cases he manages to keep people and things out through diplomacy, there are many moments when a show of force is required to keep the gate.
Another interpreting to the word “Let”, is allow. So we can read the verse as “don’t allow your heart to become troubled or afraid. In other words, “You are the gatekeeper of your heart”. You therefore have to be very intentional about what and who you open it’s doors to. Recall Revelations 3:20, Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.
If then to Jesus, we have to gatekeep our hearts and determine whether He comes or not, why then have you allowed fear, worry and discouragement to enter and exit unregulated? Why are you not keeping the gate of your heart?
