Acts 11:25 Then departed Barnabas to Tarsus, for to seek Saul:
If Barnabas were in our time, the first thought through the minds of others would have been to highlight that it was his time to shine’. In other words, he had a real opportunity to put his stamp on a project by seeing it through as an individual. Besides, he was full of the Holy Spirit and faith, and had been sent to Antioch by the church in Jerusalem. Thus, he had enough going for him.
Yet, he opts to go and find Paul to join him in teaching the church. The question is ‘why even bother?’ why let another person latch on to what could have been his golden moment?
What stands out to us is the realization that to Barnabas, it was never about which man who took centre stage. Instead, it was always about the growth of the saints and the message of Christ and Him crucified.
Because here is the drill – you could end up preoccupied with other things at the that you forget core mandates governing your walk with God. You could end up pirsuing alternative ends points and targets that have little to do with what Jesus demands. You may be even tempted to think it’s about you. Truth is, it has never been about you but Jesus- He remains at the centre.
