‘SOME MEN’ ARE FOR YOU

Acts 6:9a But he was opposed by some men who were members of the synagogue of the Freedmen

Whenever we read the account of Stephen, who is often deemed the first Martyr of the church, we are met with a scene very similar to that of Jesus. A ploy using witnesses to make a case against him. Upon reading Acts 6 again, the phrase that caught my attention was “some men”, describing the resistance that rose up against Stephen.

The reason this caught my attention was the emphasis that ‘not everybody was against him’. That I believe is important to highlight. So for you also, not everyone around you is plotting your defeat, not everyone is looking forward to celebrating your failure, not everyone is firming up their resistance. There are surely others who are cheering you on, singing your praise and wishing you the very best. There are some who continue to delight in you and are your biggest cheerleaders.

So in the face of resistance, keep going forward. Perhaps, like Paul, your thoughts might be ‘I am all alone, or all are against me’, but God’s assurance is ‘I still have many men in the city (Acts 18:10). He will raise up ‘some’ to partner with you.
