Matthew 13:55 Is not this the carpenter's son? is not his mother called Mary? and his brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas?
To Jesus, the words ‘is this not the carpenter’s son’ was not offered as description acknowledging the work Joseph did. Instead, it was one intended to disrespect. It basically was another way of saying “what does this carpenter’s son have to offer?”
In other words, the wisdom what he was bringing forth should be inconsistent with his status as a carpenter’s son. Perhaps, they expected a person of a bit more repute and charm, even a noble born with poise and belong to a higher social bracket. The only other side is, Jesus was all that but they could only see ‘the carpenter’s son’
So I wondered, what would have changed in this story had they seen Him as anything else? As I Am, as the author and finisher of their faith, as the Christ-the son of God? What change in attitude would have come forth?
We might not pay always pay attention, but we may take offense at some things purely because of our perceptions of them, and that includes people. So check the labels you place lest you fail to discern greatness right before your eyes.
