John 3:12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
Core among the principle of data protection is a statement that sounds simple, yet when ignored, can have significant repercussions: “information should be released solely on a need to know basis”. In other words, whoever receives anything must be adequately placed to need to know, and be able handle it.
Disclosures thus happen within the boundaries of understanding, so men are often weighed before such moments. Not weighed literally, but assessed to determine the extent to which they are able to handle those disclosures. The conclusion though is we are likely to be given privilege to receive only that which we can handle.
How much load can a bridge take, how high should a plane fly, within what boundaries should an athlete run? Limits are crucially applied in areas such as finance, engineering and sports mainly to preserve safety, so how much more will God not have such limits also? It is his mercy that kept Jesus from saying the ‘many things’ he had to say, because they could not bear it (John 16:12).
Here is the drill – some weightier matters are withheld from us in our own interest because even though they carry potential to lift, their weighs can also crush if one has not developed the muscles to bear them. God’s refusal to approve some of our requests could be His mercy saying ‘that is too weighty now, build muscle’. The weight of what you’re not ready for, will only crush you.
