WHISPERS AT THE GATE

GOOD FRIDAY

John 18:16 But Peter stood at the door outside. Then the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out and spoke to her who kept the door, and brought Peter in.

Access to the high priest’s palace was predicated on who was known. It would have been interesting to see what response Peter would have given if he were asked “what are you doing here outside these doors?”In that moment, it did not matter if he was the oldest among the Apostles or that he was part of the inner circle of Jesus. In that moment, he was stuck outside the door and could not go in because ‘he was not known to the high priest’.

We are not told what this disciple said to the woman who kept the door to allow Peter in but it would have been along the lines of ‘he is with me so kindly let him in’.

Beloved, there are gatekeepers in every realm, both spiritually and physically. This includes in your job, studies and every system, whether national or international that you will interact with. There are therefore gates you can find yourself standing outside unless a whisper goes into the ear of the gatekeeper to let you in.

Those whispers can come from the mouth of God himself into the ears of man, like Ananias received for Saul. However, there are whispers that come from the mouth of men and scripture is littered with examples of these. The butler spoke to Pharoah about Joseph(Gen 41:9-13), the queen spoke to King Belshazzar about Daniel(Dan 5:10-12) and today, the disciples spoke to the gatekeeper.

Make this a fervent prayer today “that whispers from the right mouths will reach the ears of those who keep the gates through which you have to pass. Lest you end up stranded outside.
