Matthew 23:2 The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach
I know the scribes and Pharisees were seen as a really big obstacle in the ministry of Jesus. That seemed reasonable grounds for rebellion against them. Yet, we realise how Jesus dealt with the subject of ‘instituted authority’: ‘They sit in the seat of Moses’.
In other words, they belong to a system of authority that has an influence and a say over the life of a group of people. Likewise, we live in nations with established systems that we may not necessarily like. But mind you, these are established systems, often governments and institutions whose authority God recognizes within certain boundaries.
Your place of work or study may not have a body of believers in authority, but that is not license for laziness, disrespect or misbehavior towards work because you have ‘business with God’. That in itself, is dishonour to God. Within such settings,
God in his mercy, will cause the occupiers of such systems to be at peace with you so you have room to glorify Him even through what you do.
Beloved, don’t become a rebel to established systems and authority in your bid to please God. Such stern resistance will make you fight battles you had no business engaging in. You could end up battered and with many losses. Discern!
