MAINTAIN YOUR CONCENTRATION

Reference text: 1 Samuel 26:1-23
We read the story of Saul’s pursuit of David. Within this story, a deep sleep from the Lord accounted for the absence of any awareness when David and Abishai went deep behind enemy lines.

If this story was retolled purely in human context without the divine intervention, we could say:
“Saul went with 3000 men in pursuit of David and the fact that he had that many men may have made him complacent. He figured he was the one pursuing and so had the upper hand. Such seemed to be the level of confidence that instead of being in a state of alertness for when David was located, he and his entire army got comfortable.

They slept with weapons lying around and the commander in chief of the army, Abner, asleep by the King’s side. But for David’s reverence for both God and the unction on Saul’s life, he would have allowed Abishai to slay Saul.

In any boxing ring, the last thing you want to do is take your eyes off your opponent just because you have a lead. You can still be knocked out if your opponent lands a good combination of punches.

So here is the lesson:
“while you should not exagerrate the effect of things [systems, events, men], don’t also underestimate their potential especially when it seems you have the upper hand. That can cost you.”
