Luke 5:4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
Through the Lens of Saint Luke’s Gospel, we read about the first meeting between Jesus and Peter. From their discourse, it would make sense for Peter to have taken offense at the words of Jesus. For a moment just think about this “A carpenter telling a seasoned fisherman how far to wade and when to cast their net”. I would be fuming if I was in Peter’s boat “how dare you tell me what to do?”
But this was not about just pride, it was about corresponding results. The seasoned fishermen had nothing to show for all their expertise – so even though reluctant, they were willing to try once more perhaps because they had nothing to lose and should they fail, they had reason to show this carpenter that he knew nothing about the sea.
Here is the real deal: what produces results is not ego or pride, but action born out of specific instructions. Sometimes, you have to put your expertise aside and listen to God speak.
