SEEKING GOD DESPERATELY

Mark 6:33 But many who saw them leaving recognized them and ran on foot from all the towns and got there ahead of them.

“A desperate man” and “a seeking man” are two individuals who have an enviable level of enthusiasm. Both are on a mission, and until they arrive at where they desire, they leave no stone unturned. No mountain is insurmountable, no obstacle is deemed a challenge and no disappointment is adequate to stop them from pressing forward.

The audience of Jesus were such: both desperate and seeking. They were able to identify an unamed ‘desolate place, run ahead on foot and arrived there before Jesus and his disciples’. If that was not reason enough to highlight their state, scripture recognised them as ‘sheep without a shepherd’- as men seeking guidance and desperate for green pasture.

The lyrics of a Don Moen song comes to mind “I am desperate for you”. There is a kind of desperation that sends men along  routes of wrong pursuit. However, the kind advocated for, and which we see today is a desperation that drove men into the arms of God and into his presence. Our charge therefore is this,

“Let us dare to seek God desperately
Because in finding him, we find ALL.”
