Mark 6:8 And commanded them that they should take nothing for their journey, save a staff only; no scrip, no bread, no money in their purse:
When things work well, we are often quick to identify what specific features, actions or attitudes contributed to the success story. Often, these are tangible. In the Gospel today, the disciples were sent out with authority from and among the instructions given them were to take no money, bread or a bag, but only put on sandals and carry one tunic.
On their return, it is interesting that those necessities of life which they went without, were not captured in their report. Rather, the reports of healings and deliverance. Almost as though they did not have those needs. The realization is ‘those needs were met’. Mind you, this was not Jesus advocating for non- preparation, this was a different lesson entirely.
It becomes very easy to associate our wins to tangible things, when in many instances, there are unseen factors that contribute to those results we celebrate. In this manner, we forget to appreciate or fail to even see the hand of God at work in those moments. Today’s message highlighted a reality that what we may deem insufficiency, does not limit the operation of God.
He is our sufficiency. Our reminder is to see His hand in our various circumstances and to remember to give thanks.
