MINIBITES

1. BECOMING BEGINGS WITH FOLLOWING

In my memory, Mark 1:17 is stored as
“Follow me and I will make you fishers of men”. But reading it again today, I think I will update that text to the versionĀ  “Come after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men.”

The statement “make you to become” is relevant because in being made, there is a specific outcome in mind. That is why Jesus uses himself as the template: “follow me”. Therefore, ‘becoming’ is the outcome of following, and making is the process to becoming.  In that regards, the questions “am I following”, what am I following or who am I following should take on greater importance because it is the one being followed who does the making.

2. DON’T JUMP BLINDLY INTO A FIGHT
Not every battle is fought with guns and bullets. Some are fought with words, and intellect, and others with silence. Some are fought with wisdom, patience, and virtue, and others with prayer. Thus, your mastery in any specific art of war does not mean you are invincible.

You have to discern the nature of each fight and what tactics ensure victory. Otherwise, you may show up to a fight in a glass house carrying stones, or show up to a battle over eggs carrying rocks. You could end up losing the very goal of the fight.
