You can spend time discerning the intentions of others, you may get it spot on or miss it entirely. The latter can often come at a steep cost. But we have an example today that appears to skip the whole introspection and goes straight for the jugular with the question “what do you want?”
John 1:38a And when Jesus turned and noticed them following, He said to them, “What do you seek?”
Every now and again we find out that in our lives, we are surrounded by situations and people, each appearing to chart a course of its own. In such moments, we are invited to raise the question “what do you seek?” because it becomes the access point to understand some situations.
Whenever we see the hand of darkness hovering, the question ‘what does it seek’ will reveal a search for death, loss and destruction. Then we can wage war accordingly. When we face diverse situations, the same question will provide answers such as ‘it is here to build your capacity’, ‘that is here to challenge your thinking, ‘those came to sharpen your resolve’ or ‘that was a consequence of missed action and timing’.
Although a very straightforward and personal question, ‘what do you seek’ is broadly applicable to various facets of life and we could employ it’s use. So in various situations, why don’t you try asking the question: “what is being sought”, and see the answers that follow.
