GO UP THE MOUNTAIN YOURSELF

Isaiah 2:3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

Using the perspective of imagery, any decision to go up a mountain should be accompanied by a degree of dogged commitment because a mountain climb is not one for the faint hearted. Even the smallest of inclines can leave one gasping for breath, much less a mountain. The slippery slopes, the danger of falling rocks, cold temperatures, wild animals etc.

However, what remains obvious is that that the view from the top is surely a sight to behold. The marvel of this view may be sufficient in the moment to forget about the effort required to make the climb. Sounds a lot like Paul’s letter to the Romans ‘For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is going to be revealed to us.”

To consciously decide to plunge into God and opt to go up the mountain of the Lord will stand against everything one may be used to. All the rules that work – the confidence in the flesh and the known order of operation are questioned. Ultimately, you have to go up the mountain yourself, else all you have is the description of the view given to you by those who have climbed.
